The Chinese and Irish Tarriers were both paid the same; about $1 per day. Both came hoping to send money home to their families.
Chinese and Irish Tarriers and gives them their “pay” and asks them to spend it appropriately. As the teacher hands out their “pay” and gives them four containers to put it — food, shelter, send home, entertainment — he/she tells them that the Chinese have to pay for their food and housing out of their wages while the Irish do not.
It’s an unforgettable and engaging math lesson with history, ethics and morals thrown in.
